What is 'Thai Massage Therapy'?

Thai Massage Therapy is a key component of Traditional Thai Medicine, performed fully clothed on the floor or a firm mat in a therapeutic practice. For generations, it has been used to address medical conditions and enhance overall health and well-being.

This practice combines elements from various alternative therapies, empowering you to take charge of your health. Engaging in Thai massage therapy regularly can help to:

Alleviate stress and tension

Enhance flexibility

Stimulate internal organ function

Relieve muscle and joint discomfort

Improve sleep

Boost vascular activity.

How does it work?

Thai massage therapy works by interactive manipulation of the body, using deep massage and stretching to break down blockages, stimulate the flow of energy and re-instate general health and wellbeing. Thai massage differs from other traditional massages as it uses gentle pressure along the body's energy lines, known as Sen lines. This then encompasses our whole being by working on our muscular, skeletal and internal energy within our body.

History and Origin

Thai massage is an ancient art of body therapy founded by Dr. Shivago, said to have been a personal physician to the King of India over 2,500 years ago. Originally drawing influence from China, India and Southeast Asia, the therapy displays an inherent knowledge of the inner workings of the body that has been developed over centuries of practice. The healing technique was practiced before doctors and gained recognition worldwide when Thailand became a popular tourist destination following the WW2.
